Our story
S.A. Poonawala was founded in 1940 in Secunderabad — then a British cantonment city — as one of the first furniture-on-hire businesses in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The business grew during the post-independence expansion of both cities, serving a steady stream of government officers, military families, and business households who preferred the flexibility of renting over buying.
Through the 1950s and 60s, the business established its own premises near Parklane and built a reputation for reliable service and transparent pricing. As Hyderabad modernised through the 1980s and 90s, the catalog expanded beyond furniture to include televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances — making S.A. Poonawala a one-stop rental partner for furnished living.
The IT boom of the 2000s brought a new generation of customers — software engineers on project transfers, startups furnishing new offices, PG operators fitting out student accommodation in Madhapur, Hitech City and Gachibowli. S.A. Poonawala has served all of them from the same Karan Centre showroom in Kalasiguda.
Today, in its 86th year, the business is run by the second and third generations of the same family. The approach is the same: direct communication, quick delivery, fair monthly rates, and maintenance included for the life of the rental.
